A geotechnical site investigation is the process of collecting information and evaluating the conditions of a site design for either construction of the foundation (e.g. buildings, industrial plants, roads and bridges) or evaluation of slopes to protect infrastructure (e.g. railways, roadways, pipelines and transmission lines). At Sola Engineering, we develop comprehensive ground models, starting with data collection, desktop studies and geological assessments. This work is augmented through site investigations that utilize in-situ testing, stability and seepage analyses, deformation analyses and groundwater modelling. We believe that excellent planning and proper management of geotechnical site investigations are the keys to obtaining sufficient site information in a timely and cost-effective manner.

GEOTECHNICAL REPORT

Sola’s geotechnical report explains site conditions and construction recommendations for designing roadways, bridges and buildings (to be incorporated into other infrastructure designs and risk assessments). Our experts interpret site investigation findings to provide advice and customized solutions that address the project’s specific engineering and construction requirements, as well as potential impacts to the site and surrounding area.

ANALYSIS

Sola offers a full suite of geotechnical analyses and interpretation of ground investigation data for routine foundation assessments and more complex projects where ground conditions are critical to the proposed development and neighbouring structures and sites.

Our experts are skilled in using a wide range of investigative and analytical techniques to identify the specific geotechnical design requirements and specifications needed to stay within acceptable risk parameters. Where necessary, we develop new investigative and analytical methods or modify existing ones, to satisfy specific project and client needs.

GEOTECHNICAL DESIGN

Determining and evaluating geotechnical parameters are critical to any project design. Sola Engineering has a solid understanding of the design requirements for structures, foundations, slopes and excavations.

Geotechnical design requires our engineers to consider ground properties, the impact the infrastructure will have on the ground surface and sub-surface, and the impact of ground conditions on the infrastructure over time.

Our areas of expertise include:

  • Slopes and slope stabilization
  • Deep and shallow foundations
  • Roads
  • Tunnels
  • Underground infrastructure
  • Embankment structures
  • Landfills
  • Pavement condition evaluations
  • Pavement investigations
